NYC Crime: Car chase ends with police-involved shooting in the Bronx

A car chase that spanned two boroughs ended with a police-involved shooting on Saturday night in The Bronx.

The incident began in Manhattan when police received a call regarding a car break-in. Officers arrived at the scene at 149 Street and Convent Avenue in Hamilton Heights to investigate.

Chase Leads to Arrest

While investigating the break-in, officers observed a nearby vehicle driving recklessly. Police initiated a pursuit, which ultimately led them to The Bronx, where one suspect was taken into custody.

Another suspect fled into a marshy area near the Major Deegan Expressway. A short time later, this individual allegedly brandished a weapon, prompting police to engage.

Police-Involved Shooting

According to police officials, an exchange of gunfire occurred as officers from the 3-0 Precinct confronted the suspect. Following this exchange, the suspect ran further into the marsh area, where a second gunfire exchange took place.

The suspect, a 39-year-old with a prior police record, sustained gunshot wounds to the head and leg. They are currently in critical condition at a local hospital.
