Kevin Spacey has reported that his financial situation is “not great” following the allegations of sexual assault that emerged eight years ago, significantly impacting his career.

The 66-year-old actor detailed his struggles in a recent interview, stating he lost his home in Baltimore, Maryland, due to escalating costs over the past seven years.

Career Decline Due to Allegations

Spacey acknowledged having limited income while facing substantial expenses. His career took a downturn after he was dismissed from his lead role in Netflix’s House of Cards and reshoots for Ridley Scott’s All the Money in the World replaced him with actor Christopher Plummer in 2017. This followed multiple allegations of sexual harassment and assault by several men.

Allegations against Spacey date back to the 1980s and include accusations from individuals like actor Anthony Rapp, who claimed they experienced harassment or assault as minors. Although a jury later found Spacey not liable for damages sought by Rapp, numerous U.S. charges against him were either dropped, dismissed, or withdrawn.

In 2020, Spacey was mandated to pay $31 million to MRC, the studio behind House of Cards, for violating its sexual harassment policy, stemming from crew member accusations. His appeal to reverse this payment was rejected in August 2022.

A 2017 investigation by The Old Vic theater, where Spacey was artistic director from 2005 to 2011, uncovered 20 allegations of misconduct. Following the investigation, various criminal and civil cases were initiated against him. In 2023, Spacey was acquitted of nine counts of sexual assault related to incidents reported between 2001 and 2013. However, nine additional individuals have accused him of misconduct in a recent documentary.

Recently, Spacey has participated in international film projects and performed a one-man cabaret show in Greece. Nevertheless, he remains largely sidelined in Hollywood.

Spacey indicated he has no fixed address and described his living situation as transient, stating he stays in hotels and Airbnbs, moving where work opportunities arise. He expressed hope that his career might regain momentum soon.

Drawing parallels to those blacklisted during the McCarthy era, Spacey believes his current “cancellation” could soon end, expressing optimism that calls from prominent filmmakers could revitalize his career.
