Motivational fitness media personality Susan Powter, recognized for her catchphrase “Stop the insanity!”, identified as a “total lesbian” in a recent interview. This marks a continuation of her public acknowledgment of her sexual orientation.

The 67-year-old Australian-born influencer gained prominence in the 1990s, following her personal weight-loss journey from 260 pounds to 114 pounds after a difficult divorce. Her journey inspired a range of motivational products, including audiotapes, fitness videos, and her memoir, Stop the Insanity!, along with several other books.

Career and Financial Background

Despite accumulating a reported fortune of $300 million, Powter faced bankruptcy in 1995 due to financial mismanagement and lawsuits related to her business ventures. Currently, she resides in Las Vegas and earns income by delivering food through Uber Eats.

Recent Insights and Personal Life

In the recent interview, Powter expressed her satisfaction with her current lifestyle and romantic preferences. “Now I’m a huge lesbian. Total lesbian, great love affairs, many girlfriends, big fun — best fun ever!” she stated while promoting her upcoming documentary, Stop the Insanity: Finding Susan Powter, which is produced by LGBTQ+ ally Jamie Lee Curtis.

In the documentary, Powter reflects on her past, including a segment from her 1994 talk show, The Susan Powter Show, titled “How to Meet a Man.” When asked about her feelings on the subject, she expressed her disinterest, stating, “I don’t think most women should meet a man.”

This is not Powter’s first mention of her sexual orientation; she initially came out as a lesbian in a 2004 interview with Curve magazine. She emphasized that she had never hidden her identity, remarking, “If anybody asked me directly, I would have told them.”

Powter’s previous relationships include a connection with the queer musical duo Animal Prufrock and comedian Jessica Kirson. However, in her recent interview, she shared that she currently has “no interest in ever getting married again” and prefers solitude over romance.

Powter conveyed her preference for isolation, sharing that she does not socialize and has a personal life centered around her adult children. “I never want to live with anyone again… I don’t date anymore,” she said, indicating a preference for a private lifestyle.

  • Kind of wild that the woman who was yelling “stop the insanity” at everyone in the ’90s is now delivering Uber Eats and just casually declaring herself a “total lesbian” like it’s Tuesday. Honestly though, her “I don’t want to live with anyone, I don’t date, leave me alone with my kids” energy is weirdly aspirational.
