A suspect in the death of actor Jonathan Joss has been formally charged with murder and is currently free on bail. Joss, known for his roles in the animated series Parks and Recreation and King of the Hill, was shot dead outside his former residence in Texas on June 1, 2025. He was 59 years old.

The grand jury in Houston indicted 57-year-old Sigfredo Ceja Alvarez, believed to be a neighbor, on November 17. Alvarez has been released on a $200,000 bond, and his legal representatives assert that he is innocent.

Details Surrounding the Incident

Joss, best known for voicing John Redcorn in King of the Hill and portraying Ken Hotate in Parks and Recreation, was fatally shot outside a property that had previously burned down in January. Following the incident, Joss’s husband, Tristan Kern de Gonzales, expressed concerns on social media, suggesting that the shooting was motivated by homophobia.

He stated that they were newlyweds who were in the process of planning their future together. Despite this assertion, San Antonio police have indicated that they currently have “no evidence” to classify Joss’s death as a hate crime.

Tributes and Remembrances

Joss’s colleagues have paid tribute to him following his passing. Chris Pratt, who worked with Joss on Parks and Recreation and the film The Magnificent Seven, described him as “such a kind dude.” Nick Offerman, also a cast member of Parks and Recreation, characterized him as “such a sweet guy.”

In a joint statement, the creators of King of the Hill acknowledged Joss’s contribution to the series, saying, “Jonathan Joss brought John Redcorn to life for over a dozen seasons, including in the upcoming revival. His voice will be missed, and we extend our deepest condolences to Jonathan’s friends and family.”
